Services : Chiropractic Manipulation Chiropractic Manipulation

Precision Sports Medicine & Chiropractic offers the most comprehensive neuro-musculoskeletal care, through a combination of various treatment options. Our doctors are highly trained in spinal and extremity manipulations and mobilizations, which can increase motion to the joints and decrease pain.

A manipulation, which is normally but not always applied to the spine, utilizes a quick but gentle maneuver, to enable movement in joints with decreased range of motion, thereby decreasing pain. Joint mobilization is similar to manipulation, but is used in different conditions. It is not as quick as a manipulation, but it is still effective at increasing motion in joints with limited range of motion.

FLEXION/DISTRACTION

The flexion distraction technique is another unique technique available for patients at Precision Sports Medicine & Chiropractic. A flexion distraction table is used to treat the lumbar and thoracic spine. It moves up and down, and side to side; providing traction, which mobilizes the spinal joints, addresses disc herniations, and decreases spasm in the surrounding soft tissue. Multiple studies have shown this specific lumbar traction technique to decrease intradiscal pressure thereby hydrating a degenerated disc or helping to decrease the severity of disc herniations.

SPORTS CHIROPRACTIC

Sports Chiropractic, also known as Chiropractic sports sciences/medicine, is a specialty of chiropractic. The focus of chiropractic sports specialists is to provide care in the conservative management, rehabilitation and performance optimization of the neuromusculoskeletal system for athletic populations as well as the general public.

They are also experts in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of conditions as they relate to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This additional training allows them to expand their treatment approach beyond standard chiropractic to encompass a vast array of physical medicine techniques and modalities. Ultimately, this gives sports chiropractors the ability to treat a wide variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

THE HISTORY OF SPORTS MEDICINE IN THE OLYMPICS

Chiropractic sports medicine specialists first began treating Olympic athletes at the Olympic Games in Mexico City, in 1968, when Dr. Leroy Perry arranged a relationship with the Aruba team. The first official appointment of a chiropractor to the US team began with the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York, United States, when Dr. George Goodheart's name was given to Irving Dardik, MD, then chairman of the USOC Sports Medicine Committee by Dr. Stephen J. Press.

And, at each subsequent games chiropractors were included with the US team, and other national teams as well. In the 2008 Games in Beijing, the US team sent four chiropractors, and, in another US first, i.e., they appointed Dr. Mike Reed, DC medical director of the US team.
